Low-Tox Living in Singapore: My Favourite Bath & Household Cleaning Products

I started making low-tox swaps even before having kids because of my own allergies — but after my first baby, a major eczema flare-up on my hands pushed me to swap out everything from our bath soap to our household cleaning sprays.

With allergies and skin sensitivities in the family, I’ve learned that many products labelled “all natural” or “low-tox” aren’t always fully transparent. Even the dermatologist recommended brands like QV or Cetaphil didn’t work as well for me as these niche, genuinely low-tox options. They might cost a bit more, but not having to deal with itchy flare-ups and irritated skin makes it so worth it. Here are my personal favourites for a healthier, happier home.

  • Hair Conditioner

I have a little girl with super long hair and super sensitive skin and nose.. just like her mama. So we both use this low tox conditioner. It does not have sulphates so it doesn’t leave your hair super smooooooth, but it does work well and makes my hair feel so healthy!

  • Castile Soap

A squeaky clean ingredient soap that’s super versatile. I order mobile refills by the gallon directly from The Castile Soap Shop  and use them all over the house – as hand soap, dish soap for super oily items, to wash fruits and veggies, as multi-purpose spray.. the list goes on.
This is a must-have for any trip with kids as well since I can use it for anything.. even stains on clothing!
I usually get Sweet Orange or Unscented which are more suitable for households with kids.
Check out this Castile Soap Dilution Guide on how to use castile soap.

  • Foaming Hand Soap

We like to use foaming hand soap because it’s easier for the kids to manage and is easy to wash off. We use this in an automatic foaming soap dispenser.

  • Eczema Cream

This steroid-free cream works so well for eczema patches and dry and ensitive skin. It is steroid-free so it does take some time to work and probably would not work for very serious eczema flares, but is a good long-term solution.
Or buy it at a local pharmacy on your Australia trips!

  • Facial soap bar

Soap bars are the most affordable clean soaps out there. This is my favourite!

  • Aleppo body soap bar

Take it from someone with what feels like a million contact allergies, aleppo soap is the most affordable, clean soap you can treat your body to without breaking the bank. As someone who saw a derm for skin allergies since 13, I’ve tried all the Cetaphil, Aveeno, QV, and found that a simple ingredient bar soap is the way to go!

  • Shampoo bar

    Shampoo bar

Even after post-partum hair loss came and left, I found that my hair fall was still high, and my scalp often itchy and oily. I also tried a couple of shampoo bars from the US and Australia and often found them leaving my hair super dry, or the bars would disappear in Singapore’s humidity. Postcard is a sustainable Singaporean beauty brand and wow does this shampoo bar work so well.. no more itchy scalp and just all round healthy hair!

Kids Bath

  • Automatic Foam Soap Dispenser

An automatic foaming soap dispenser that lets you use your own soap, controls the amount of soap your kids use each time, and makes it easy for little toddlers to wash their own hands.

I also use this in the kitchen because aunty hates touching anything else after touching raw meat!

  • Food Safe Sanitiser

I used this to clean tables and high chairs whenever we ate out when the girls were babies because those hands went touched EVERYTHING.
And then for nasty toilets.. those short little hands and legs touch everything in the toilet cubicle!

I also use it in my kitchen to sanitise my counter tops when I handle raw meat.

  • Baby Wipes

Both my babies had a bad rash on their bums once they started moving about. Both times it stopped once I switched our wipes. I also feel more comfortable wiping their hands and faces with these when we’re out.

  • Hair Conditioner

I have a little girl with super long hair and super sensitive skin and nose.. just like her mama. So we both use this low tox conditioner. It does not have sulphates so it doesn’t leave your hair super smooooooth, but it does work well and makes my hair feel so healthy!

  • Kids Shampoo and Body Wash

Low tox liquid soap is expensive, so I buy this in bulk refill to make it more cost effective. It is a good and gentle soap that works well on sensitive skin. We love it!

  • All Purpose Cleaner

I use a two All-Purpose Cleaners, this one I use to get stains out on counters and surfaces.
Where possible, I’ve linked the refill as this is a much more cost efficient option!

The other is a Castile soap mixture for general cleaning around the house.

  • Laundry Stain Remover

We did baby-led weaning with our kids and used this so much for all the food stains! It does a fairly decent job, though don’t expect it to get very tough oil stains off.

  • Laundry Powder

Laundry powder is very often overlooked when people have skin sensitivities or eczema. Many natural laundry detergents still contain fragrances which aren’t fully listed in the ingredients list.
Try swapping your usual laundry detergent with this one and see if it makes a difference!
It may seem more expensive at a glance, but you only need a small scoop per load so it’s actually not a lot more expensive.

The downside is if you have really sweaty, smelly clothing, you will probably need to do a pre-wash cycle before the main wash to get rid of the smell.

  • Dishwashing Powder

If you use a dishwasher and want a lower tox option for dishwashing powder, I recommend this! It doesn’t give the same sparkling clean as the Finish dishwashing detergent, but if you put in some effort to swipe your plates with my favourite dish squeegee, and don’t overload your dishwasher, this dishwashing powder should work well for you!

  • Multi-Purpose Cream Cleaner

I use this to clean really tough stains in the oven and on pans. It has natural ingredients so requires a bit more elbow grease but it does do a good job!

  • Dish Soap Bar

Before I found this dish soap, I could not do the dishes regularly without getting eczema on my hands or my skin peeling. I’ve recommended this countless times to friends with the same problem and it’s worked 100% of the time for them!

This soap dish is great for keeping the mess of a soap bar minimal.

  • Mesh Scrubber for dishes

I was always trying new sponges until I met this dish scrubber! It doesn’t leave bits of food on your sponge which I really can’t stand and works so well paired with this dish soap bar.
